Why We Were Founded: Sapling Wealth Management was founded to take advantage of changes in the financial service industry. First, the business model for financial advice is evolving from a commission driven (“client appropriate”) to Asset Under Management (AUM) fee based model (“client first”). Second, access to extremely sophisticated analytical and investment tools is now cost effective, obviating the need for large organizations to amortize costly infrastructure investments. However, we believe there are few professionals who know how to use these tools effectively that are focused on individual investors. Sapling Wealth Management was formed to bridge this gap. Will Hicks is the founder of Sapling Wealth Management. He has over 25 years of financial service and investment experience.

Work Experience: Will started his career in 1986 working on Wall Street as an Equity Research Analyst for Smith Barney and later, Cowen & Company. During his tenure, he specialized in real estate investment trusts, master limited partnerships, homebuilders, energy and health care service stocks. At Cowen & Company, Will helped start the health care service group, which was later ranked as the top health care equity research team on Wall Street by Greenwich Associates Institutional Analyst Survey. In 1996, Will was personally ranked as the #1 health care service analyst in the Wall Street Journal “All-Star Analyst” Survey.* In subsequent years, Will has worked in corporate venture capital and private equity. Most recently, Will was Managing Director of Bridgespan Capital, a firm specializing in real estate lending, distressed real estate and work-outs.

Education: Will graduated cum laude from Duke University, majoring in Economics and Political Science. He earned an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He successfully passed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam in 1993. He currently holds the Personal Financial Planning (PFP) and Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) designations.
